Not every weekend in London needs a restaurant booking and a queue. Here's a slower, hands-on alternative worth building a Saturday around — centred on Waterloo and the South Bank.
Start With Something You Make
A pottery class is a genuinely different way to spend two hours — no screens, no queue, something to show for it afterwards. Our Waterloo studio runs pottery painting and hand-building sessions most days of the week, no experience needed. It works well solo, as a couple, or with friends.
Then Explore Waterloo and the South Bank
The studio is a two-minute walk from Waterloo station and just two minutes from Lambeth North station, right in the middle of one of London's best weekend walking areas:
- The South Bank — river walks, book stalls, street performers, and some of London's best skyline views
- Borough Market — a short walk away, for lunch or an afternoon of food stalls
- Southwark — on the way towards Bermondsey, with its own mix of independent cafes and galleries
- Bermondsey Street — around 9 minutes from Waterloo, worth the trip once you've spent some time in Southwark, with independent galleries, cafes, and restaurants at a slower pace than central London
A Weekend Plan
- Morning: pottery class at Doppiocotto (book ahead, sessions fill up on weekends)
- Lunch: Borough Market, a 10-minute walk from the studio
- Afternoon: a walk along the South Bank towards Tate Modern, through Southwark and on to Bermondsey Street (about 9 minutes from Waterloo) if you have time
- Take home: a piece you made yourself, ready to collect in two to three weeks once it's glazed and fired
