How a Custom Ceramic Commission Works, Start to Finish

Whether you’re an interior designer sourcing a signature piece for a project, a brand looking for something no one else has, or an individual wanting a one-of-a-kind commission, here’s exactly how the process works with Doppiocotto.

Step 1: The brief

We start with a conversation — what’s the piece for, where will it live, and what feeling should it carry? This is where we learn about your space, your brand, or your vision.

Step 2: Concept and material selection

Based on the brief, we propose a direction: form, glaze, colour, and finish. For designers and brands, we can work from existing colour palettes or material references.

Step 3: Sample or sketch approval

Depending on the scale of the commission, we’ll share a sample piece or detailed reference before full production begins, so there are no surprises.

Step 4: Hand-building and firing

Every piece is hand-built in our London studio — no moulds — then fired twice: once for the biscuit stage, once after glazing, at 1250°C for durability.

Step 5: Delivery

Finished pieces are carefully packed and delivered, ready to be placed in the space they were made for.
