Kids' Pottery and Family Activities in London: How Private Family Sessions Work

Looking for a creative family activity in London, or a children's party that isn't soft play? Pottery is something children and adults can genuinely enjoy together. Doppiocotto runs private family sessions and children's pottery parties on request at its working ceramics studio in Waterloo, London SE1, a 9-minute walk from Waterloo station and a 2-minute walk from Lambeth North station.

Why pottery is great for families

  • It's hands-on and screen-free, and children love working with clay and colour
  • Adults and children can work side by side on the same activity
  • Every child goes home with something they made, not a party bag of plastic

Pottery painting for younger children

Pottery painting is especially accessible for younger participants. Everyone chooses a ready-made piece, such as a mug, plate or bowl, and decorates it with ceramic paints and glazes, with ceramic artist Bora Cetin on hand throughout. Older children can also try simple hand-building with clay.

How family sessions work

  • Arranged on request, as a private session for your family or party
  • Groups of 2 to 20 people
  • Pottery painting or simple hand-building, depending on ages
  • All clay, paints, glazes, tools and aprons provided
  • You can bring your own food and drinks, including a birthday cake
  • Pieces are glazed and kiln-fired by Bora and will be ready to collect in approximately 2 weeks

Our standard public classes are for ages 16 and over, so families and children's parties are booked as private sessions.

A family day out near the South Bank

The studio is close to the South Bank, so a pottery session fits easily into a family day out in central London. Lambeth North station is a 2-minute walk away and Waterloo station a 9-minute walk.
