Pottery Hen Party London – What to Expect at Doppiocotto
Share
Planning a hen party in London means navigating a lot of options. Cocktail-making. Bottomless brunch. Spa days. Life drawing. They are all fine — but if you are looking for a pottery hen party in London that the whole group will talk about long after the weekend, you are in the right place.
At Doppiocotto, we run private pottery workshops from our working ceramics studio in Waterloo, SE1. Hen parties are some of our favourite sessions to run: the energy in the room when a group of friends is working with clay together is unlike anything else. There is laughter, there is mild chaos, and at the end of it there is a fired ceramic piece for every single person to take home.
Here is exactly what to expect when you book a pottery hen party at Doppiocotto.
Why a Pottery Hen Party Is the Best Creative Hen Party in London
London has no shortage of hen party activities, but most of them share a common problem: they are passive. You sit. You eat. You drink. You watch something happen. A pottery hen party inverts all of that — it puts something in your hands and asks you to make it.
Clay is the great leveller. Nobody in the group has an advantage. The bride-to-be has exactly the same blank canvas as the maid of honour. Everyone struggles with the same things, everyone surprises themselves, and the results are wonderfully, unpredictably personal. Two people can follow identical instructions and produce completely different pieces — that is the nature of making something by hand.
It is also, genuinely, one of the most relaxing hen party activities in London. There is something about working with clay — the weight of it, the focus it demands, the way it forces you to be completely present — that strips away the usual anxiety of a big group social occasion. People arrive slightly nervous and leave two hours later wondering when they can come back.
What Happens at a Doppiocotto Pottery Hen Party
Every pottery hen party at Doppiocotto is a private session — the studio is exclusively yours for the duration. Here is how a typical session unfolds:
Arrival and welcome drinks: You arrive at the studio, hang up your coats, put on your aprons, and get a welcome drink. We serve ours in Doppiocotto handmade cups, which feels like the appropriate way to start. This is the moment to settle in, take in the studio, and feel the first piece of clay between your fingers.
Introduction from Bora: Bora — ceramic artist and founder of Doppiocotto — introduces the session. She covers the clay, the tools, and the technique you will be using. For most groups this is pottery painting, mug making, or a combination of both. No previous experience is assumed. This takes about ten to fifteen minutes and covers everything you need to get started.
Making time: This is the heart of the session. For the next hour or so, the group works with clay. Bora moves through the room offering hands-on guidance — showing someone how to hold a brush, rescuing a mug that has lost its handle, admiring a glaze choice. It is unhurried, it is tactile, and it is the part everyone remembers.
Glazing: Once pieces are made or painted, the group chooses their glaze finish. Bora walks you through the options — the palette is carefully curated, and several glazes in the collection have taken years of test firings to develop. This is a surprisingly enjoyable part of the session: deciding how something you made with your hands is going to look when it comes out of the kiln.
Celebration time: The last part of the session is yours. Prosecco can be opened, decorations can go up, a speech can be made. We are happy for groups to bring anything that makes the occasion feel special — just let us know in advance so we can set up accordingly. The studio is yours until the session ends.
After the session, all pieces are glazed and kiln-fired by Bora. They are ready to collect from the studio approximately two weeks later — or we can discuss posting options if collecting is not convenient for everyone.

Where We Are: Waterloo, London SE1
Doppiocotto is based in Waterloo, SE1 — a two-minute walk from Waterloo station, which connects directly to the Jubilee, Bakerloo, Northern, and Waterloo & City Underground lines, as well as National Rail services from across the South and South East.
For a hen party group travelling from different parts of London — or arriving by train for a weekend — there is no more practical meeting point in central London. And once the session is over, you are perfectly placed for dinner, drinks, or a walk along the South Bank. Borough Market is close. Bermondsey Street is close. The river is close. The afternoon can continue in any direction.
The studio itself is a working ceramics space — the same one where Bora makes every piece you will find in the Doppiocotto shop. When your group sits down to make their ceramics, they are working in the same environment, with the same tools and materials, that produced every handmade espresso cup and plate in the collection. That is not a detail that gets mentioned in a hired event venue.
Other Private Events at Doppiocotto
Pottery hen parties are the most popular reason people book a private session at Doppiocotto, but they are far from the only one. The same format — exclusive studio hire, expert tuition, a finished ceramic piece for everyone — works beautifully for:
- Corporate team-building workshops (groups of four to twenty, any sector)
- Birthday celebrations and milestone evenings
- Date nights for couples
- Baby showers and anniversary events
- Family workshops (including children, arranged on request)
If you are organising a team event rather than a hen party, the structure is the same — the tone shifts slightly, from celebration to collaboration, but the clay, the studio, and the satisfaction of making something real are identical. Several companies have come back to Doppiocotto for corporate workshops after first visiting as individuals on a hen party or date night. That is probably the best endorsement we can offer.
For all private event enquiries — hen parties, corporate bookings, birthdays, and bespoke sessions — email hello@doppiocotto.com with your preferred date, group size, and what you have in mind. We respond within one business day.
